The Installation Process

Our customers wanted help to restore their patio from the eye sore it had become for them. With all of the dirt and growing moss, they stopped using their patio at all. They wanted to remove the organic growth and keep it beautiful for a much longer time.

The paver renovation we provide is a 3 trip program that takes about 3 weeks from start to finish, though in total it was about 4 business days of work. We performed this on both the front walkway and back patio for this project. The walkway was in better condition than the patio and wasn’t covered in moss.

TRIP 1
For Trip 1, we power wash the pavers with a mixed-in cleaning solution. What this does is effectively removes the joints along with dirt and organic growth (such as moss and mold) to thoroughly clean the pavers. Once completed, we wait approximately 1 week to allow the patio to dry.

Trip 2
During Trip 2 we install new polymeric sand and mist it, which interlocks the pavers. Then we wait another week to allow the material to fully dry.

Trip 3
Trip 3 we seal pavers to enhance and bring out their original colors. It can’t restore color that have fully faded, but the sealer brings out and makes the remaining colors pop. The pavers on average look 90% close to how they looked when they were initially installed.

An issue we encountered was that due to it being in the shade, we had to wait longer between trips because the material was not fully drying. Moss will eventually start to regrow because of the shade, however it is significantly easier to remove after a patio has been sealed. You can think of the sealer acting almost like a car wax: when any kind of water comes in contact with the pavers, it will bead up rather than penetrating the pavers. This means if moss regrows on the client’s pavers, you can simply take a hose and rinse it right off. When pavers aren’t sealed, you have to scrape off moss which risks scratching the pavers
