The Installation Process

Our client wanted to replace her concrete walkway with something more stylish. We removed the existing walkway and installed a beautiful paver walkway and front porch.

The customer had a couple important requirements — she wanted a beautiful product and a very professional service experience. Her main concern was hiring a company that would do everything requested down to the smallest details, in which we were the perfect match! When we met with the customer, we walked her through the complete process of how we install pavers and showed her samples on-site. She was able to see and feel these to understand the premium product we offer. Even though our service cost was over her initial budget for this project, we provided a professional service experience from the first moment we spoke on the phone and she liked and trusted us, which is absolutely invaluable.

As for the design, she didn’t have many specific requests and took a lot of our design advice to craft the most pleasing result. Along with showing her different color choices, we also provided her a list of walkways we have done near her house within the community. The final design was reinforced with Solder’s Course paver border for aesthetics and to provide a buffer from the clay bricks on the house. The paver stone we installed are the Stone Ridge and Stone Ridge XL pavers from Nicolock in the color Chesapeake Blend. The Soldier’s Course pavers were from the brand Nicolock, the paver type is Ridgebrick and in the color Charcoal. The step tread leading up to the front patio was made of Charcoal-color Fullnose.

First, we removed her existing concrete walkway with a jackhammer and hauled away the concrete. Next, we buried her downspout near the walkway, transitioned it to PVC piping, laid it under the walkway, and connected it to a pop-up emitter in the lawn. When preparing the foundation for the walkway, we pulled stringlines to ensure the walkway was properly leveled with the correct slope. Once that was ensured, we excavated with our company’s personal Skid Steer and hand-graded any area too narrow for it to reach. Then we put down filter fabric, 4 inches of 21A type gravel, and compacted the materials to ensure there will be no future settlement or waving effects. On top of all this we laid an inch of concrete sand and installed the pavers and plastic edging, which was spiked in with metal spikes. Lastly, we swept in polymeric sand and misted it to interlock the pavers.
