The Installation Process

When we first visited this property at our initial consultation, the house and beds were covered in moss, weeds were growing in the yard and garden beds, and there were huge dirt spots throughout the yard. This property is in a small community tucked away and hidden by a larger, newer community. The client wanted certain plants incorporated, such as the Carolina-Allspice bush, due to its specific fragrance. The customer had a passion for gardening, but a very hard time getting around to it due to her occupation. With the excessive amount of shade that was on the property, their plants were not thriving, which was very frustrating for her.

Phase 1

We constructed a paver walkway and created a beautiful garden near this walkway, along with removing a large tree to allow more sunlight for the plants and to drive away the moss.

After we performed phase 1, our soft wash crew cleaned the house, making the property unrecognizable for the better.

Phase 2

Here, we expanded the garden we created for Phase 1 to continue onto the front left side of the client’s house. We also lightly regraded and sodded a portion of the front yard that was almost completely dirt. Also, we installed a Bluestone Stepper path to connect to the present gravel walkway.

Phase 3

This phase, we finally removed the old gravel walkway and installed a stepper path. This finalized a beautiful garden for our customers to enjoy while supporting them walking down a stable stepper path. These projects allowed what was unique about this property to shine and our client to finally enjoy planting.

A challenge we encountered were shallow and exposed roots from large trees where we wanted to install plants. Because their yard wasn’t irrigated, the roots slowly emerged to the surface to find water. We had to use chainsaws and digging bars to remove those roots and clear more space. We used chainsaws for removing and elevating trees and our Skid Steer for removing trees and the excavation for the walkway.

For the walkway in Phase 1, we excavated the existing path and put down our filter fabric, 4 inches of 21A gravel that we then compacted, and 1 inch of concrete sand. Then we installed the pavers and paver edging and, lastly, applied polymeric sand. We used Nicolock-brand pavers of the Stone Ridge and Stone Ridge XL type. The customers chose Granite City for the paver color. For the border, we used Ridgebrick brand pavers the color Charcoal. Finally, we put an inch of stone dust as the base and leveled it out to ensure the steppers will not settle or move. Over the course of all three phases, the total price was between $30k-$33k. We also perform our lawn care fertilizer program for this customer, but the above price range does not include the price of these services.
